Brock Solutions Earns Platinum Status

December 4, 2003 - Brock Solutions Inc. of Kitchener has achieved platinum status for being one of the nation's 50 best-managed companies for eight years.

The company now employs 220 people and provides engineering technology and services to a cross-section of industries, from pharmaceutical to steel.

It once contained four different companies that have now been merged into Brock Solutions. It was founded by Rick Brock, who is chairman of the board.

The company has repeatedly qualified as one of the nation's best-managed companies in the annual award program sponsored by Deloitte & Touche, CIBC Commercial Banking, the National Post and Queen's School of Business.

Vivenne Ojala, president of Brock Solutions, said yesterday that the award-winning success is the result of the people that the company has been able to attract and retain.

"We have a culture where people truly have the ability to manage their own lives and yet be part of a team," Ojala said. "Everybody has the strength of the team, but they also have the flexibility and autonomy to manage their own lives and work and take responsibility for their actions and benefit from that."

Brock Solutions is one of only 17 companies in Canada to achieve the "Platinum Club" status given to businesses that stay on the best-managed list for at least six consecutive years.

"Time and time again these companies have proven their remarkable ability and commitment to continue to apply best practices in all aspects of their business," said Tony Grnak, a Deloitte partner. "This is certainly no easy feat in such a competitive market and under such a rigorous evaluation process," he added.

To be recognized as one of the 50 best, the companies must complete a comprehensive questionnaire, go through an extensive, in-depth review process and be evaluated by an independent judging panel that looks at its management practices in all areas of business.

Ojala said the process of putting together the application for the best management award is something that has helped the company in its continuous improvement strategy.
