2 Metro Press Upgrades Successfully Completed = The Beginning of a Metroliner Press Upgrade for Masthead/Brock at Gannett Offset in Springfield, VA

Masthead International Inc. and Brock Solutions are pleased to announce that the second of two Goss Metro Press Upgrades has been successfully completed at Gannett Offset in Springfield, VA. The Masthead/Brock Press Upgrades were performed concurrently with a Masthead press rebuild.
The second project, which was completed over a three-week period, was awarded based on the success of the first project, and involved Masthead and Brock working together to provide full-scale mechanics and electrics, and included specific tasks such as:
- Replacing old DC drives and motors
- Upgrading the Goss Metro Press with eight AC drives and motors
- Integrating press functions associated with recently upgraded RTPs into an updated touchscreen Folder Console Operator Interface
The Metro Press Upgrades provided numerous benefits to Gannett Offset, including:
- Improved reliability of press operations
- Reduced time to diagnose the causes of stops and/or faults including first web break indication
- Reduced energy use; cost savings realized
- Assured replacement part availability/eliminated obsolescence
The completion of the second upgrade project was followed by the awarding of a third project calling for the Masthead/Brock team to perform an upgrade of a Goss Metroliner Press used at Gannett Offset (Springfield), where 60 publications are printed, including three big name dailies—USA Today, The NY Times, and The Financial Times. Gannett Offset (Springfield) is part of The Gannett Company Inc., which is the largest newspaper group in the USA in terms of circulation, with over one hundred daily newspapers generating a daily paid circulation of 7.6 million.
