Brock Solutions and Masthead Team to Provide the Santa Cruz Sentinel with a Goss Headliner Offset Press Drive System Upgrade

Masthead International Inc., a leader in the printing press services industry, and Brock Solutions, a leading automation and drives engineering company, are pleased to announce successful completion of a comprehensive upgrade to a Goss Headliner Offset Press Drive System at the Santa Cruz Sentinel in Santa Cruz, California.
For the project Masthead was responsible for all electrical and mechanical installations, with Brock assuming responsibility for:
- Engineering and supplying the AC Press Drive and Motor upgrade
- Replacing an existing Folder Console with a customized Folder Console touchscreen complete with updated auto start features, ink and water controls, circumferential and side-lay registration controls, and an Advanced Press Reporting Package (APRP)
- Converting the mechanical functionality of traditional buttons and meters to electronic functionality for monitor and control via the touchscreen Folder Console
The Santa Cruz Sentinel, which has a daily circulation of approximately 25,000 papers, realized immediate benefits from this project, including:
- Improved press reliability
- Improved overall runnability
- Reduced energy use; cost savings realized
- Assured replacement part availability/eliminated obsolescence
The Sentinel is owned by Ottaway Newspapers, Inc., which is the community newspaper subsidiary of Dow Jones and Company. Ottaway publishes 15 daily, 12 Sunday, and 18 weekly newspapers in numerous states throughout America.
