The Challenge: Brock Solutions was
commissioned to provide complete electrical controls
for a new Coating line for a large Steel
Service Center in Mexico. The process involved the coating
of polyethylene on steel or aluminum. The line consisted of bridle
sections for proper tension between sections, accumulators at the entry and
exit of the line for continuous operation, cleaning, chemical and coating sections,
and a dry oven.
The Solution: Brock implemented 17 DC drives and motors, 5 PanelView
HMIs for set-up and diagnostics, PLC with remote racks,
and a primary drive regulator. The primary regulator simplified drive
coordination allowing tension to automatically adjust based on material gauge
and width. The user-friendly HMI was designed to annunciate process parameters
such as line speed, coater speed, process tension, accumulator position, diameter and
tension for Uncoiler and Recoiler.
The Results:
- User-friendly tuning system with excellent speed synchronization
and tension regulation
- Optimum product quality with minimal waste and minimal mechanical
wear and tear on the Coater rolls
- Centralized control and a powerful annunciator make the system easy
to diagnose and troubleshoot
