Synopsis of Autoclave Sterilization Controls System Redesign
- Situation: A leading pharmaceutical manufacturer purchased a walk-thru autoclave to support an internal sterilization program for various process components, process vessels, sanitization implements, and filling part/components. Functionality of the autoclave is based on a controls system designed for monitoring and maintaining sterilization conditions defined by selected sterilization recipes that are built into the system.
- Issue: The autoclave manufacturer's initial attempt to integrate their product into the pharmaceutical company's existing automation system presented a number of system compatibility-related problems.
- Requirement: A re-designed Controls System to run the autoclave as a fully operational unit that satisfies all regulatory compliance mandates specific to the Pharmaceutical industry.

- Brock Solutions' Role: Brock was sub-contracted by the pharmaceutical manufacturer to address the issue of non-compatibility, as well as to provide re-design and associating development and deployment of a fully operational and compliant PLC/HMI-based controls system.
- Technology: Rockwell RSLogix 5000 (ControlLogix 5553), RSView-ME (PanelView Plus 1200) Human Machine Interfaces, RSView Active Display System (RAD), PanelView Plus HMIs.
