Synopsis Pharmaceutical MES Evaluation and Implementation

Situation: An international manufacturer of prescription medications operated with an antiquated manual information system. Issues: Manual control was not efficient, cost effective, or reliable. Excel spreadsheets were used to automate some system functions, but did not provide data links between users and processes. Each work center functioned as an autonomous department, which didn’t allow for visibility across the organization. In addition, the system didn’t allow for uniform application of business rules or GMP guidelines. Requirement: An automation solution that conformed to GMP guidelines.

Brock Solutions' Role: Brock evaluated a number of MES vendors before selecting and deploying the final software package. Brock interviewed users and managerial personnel to determine the desired functionality of the new system, and to map its requirements against defined business goals, which included a number of variables, the most important of which involved direct dispensing control and lot management. MES Solution Highlights: The new MES solution provides a flow of real-time information across the production floors of the Clinical Supplies Department’s Raw Materials, Bulk Drug Products, and Primary Packaging operations. MES modules include Inventory Management, Item Characteristics, Formulations, Work Orders, Dispensing.
