Synopsis of SFO's Technology Service/Maintenance Program

  • Situation: SFO (San Francisco International Airport) consistently ranks as one of the world’s top 30 busiest airports based on passenger volume (moving 30+ million passengers year in and year out). SFO is a bustling hub of activity that is continually evolving and growing to address the needs of the ever-changing global airline travel marketplace. With on-going and expansion, come challenges. Where technology is the focus, at any given time, new technology implementations and/or Baggage Handling System (BHS) controls and software and networking technology upgrades are occurring throughout the airport's vast facility that includes 4 terminals and 7 concourses.
  • Question Around Technology and Growth: How can the airport’s existing technical infrastructure best be served while at the same time assuring that the evolving requirements for upgrades are thought out and implemented as prudently as possible?
  • Answer: High Technology Maintenance Services (HTMS) program.
  • Main Technology Components: Ethernet equipment cabinets, HMI cabinets, PLC cabinets, E-Stop nodes and relays, Ethernet power controllers and switches, integrated display computers, monitors, printers, servers, etc.

  • Brock Solutions’ Role: Under terms of a HTMS contract, Brock is supporting the airport with an onsite technical specialist who is:
    • Dedicated to the airport on a full-time, contractual-term basis
    • Backed by a clearly-defined, off-site resource network of engineers and technologists with highly specialized skills covering BHS controls, sortation software, IT networking/communications, and device/instrumentation technology
    Brock’s work is categorized into 2 distinct categories: 1) Preventative Maintenance: Weekly and monthly requirements are outlined covering routine-scheduled maintenance checks and cleaning procedures; and 2) Incident Report Service Calls: Responsive action required based on the severity of a problem (rated on a graduated scale as reported by customer personnel).
