Synopsis of Canadian Airport's Panel Builds for Multiple Hold Baggage Screening (HBS) System Projects

  • Situation: One of Canada's largest international airports contracted Brock Solutions to enhance the security screening of an International terminal and a Transborder terminal by designing, developing, and implementing comprehensive Hold Baggage Screening (HBS) retrofits. The project scope extended to all panel build requirements.
  • The Role of Brock Solutions' Panel Shop: Design, fabricate, and install:
    • 20 Main Control Panels (MCPs)
    • 415 Control Stations
    • 540 Distributed I/O (DIO) boxes
  • Unique Challenge: Project activity mobilized as construction activity was taking place on the airport’s terminals. At the project onset, the panel build schedule was based on group lots being produced to ship in association with anticipated construction end dates. However, throughout the panel build/HBS project lifecycle, the airport terminal construction schedule was subjected to numerous changes, resulting in changes related to which panels were needed and when. The Panel Shop maintained open and direct communication with the airport, and this enabled all change requests to be met without adversely affecting the overall panel build schedule.
