Last week, Brock Solutions’ SmartClear baggage solutions for U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (US CBP) was profiled in Connected Aviation Today. The SmartClear’s Baggage Image and Weight Identification System (BIWIS) utilizes technology at the check-in counter, the bag room along with the customs hall to allow remote access to the bags information electronically for U.S. CBP officials. With SmartClear BIWIS’s ability to gather specific information, such as image, weight, and tag number, as luggage is inducted into the sortation system, it has improved the travelers’ experience at the airport by decreasing weight times, increased screening process efficiency and more. The SmartClear baggage solution system has run successfully alongside automated immigration programs, such as Automated Passport Control (APC), to alleviate delays and weight times at airports without compromising security.
While automated immigration programs provide benefits like avoiding long lines at U.S. CBP, it doesn’t alleviate the security burden of baggage operations at airports.
